Do I need to have my documents translated and certified to emigrate to Canada?
Do I need to have my documents translated and certified to emigrate to Canada?

If you are looking to move to Canada, you will need a certified translation of all your documents (except your passport), provided they are not in English or French in the first place. Even if you are only applying for a work visa, you will need English or French translations for all your visa-related documents. You will also need your job applications for Canada translated.

We are happy to lay out which documents you need, but please make sure you research the exact requirements for your unique situation, as they may vary by province or territory.

Good to know

The Canadian government recognises certified translations from abroad as long as they were issued in the country you are emigrating from.

Documents you need to apply for a job in Canada

To apply for a job with a potential Canadian employer, you will need the following documents:

  • Cover letter
  • Resume/CV
  • Job references
  • Certificates and (school) reports

You may not need certificates, school reports or diplomas for your application in Canada, but you are required to submit your work references from past employers. Please ensure you find out about the respective job ad or ask the company. This also gives you a great opportunity to establish direct contact.

Your application materials should be written in flawless English or French. Please consider having them proofread by professional translators or native speakers. You should always have your CV and job references translated and, if applicable, certified.
