Influences from other languages

Particularly the USA seem to like German expressions, which explains why words like angst, wanderlust, kindergarten, doppelgänger or zeitgeist have made their way into the English language.

Did you know?
British colonial period

A big reason why English is so widely spread – even in Asia, Oceania and Africa – goes back to Britain’s colonial period. Many of these countries have since gained their independence from the British Commonwealth, but the language stuck around.

Did you know?
British vs American English

More so than dialects, British and American English are variations of the English language. Not only do they have slightly different spellings, e.g., ‘legalisation’ (BE) vs ‘legalization’ (AE), but different words entirely, e.g., ‘flat’ (BE) vs ‘apartment’ (AE).

Impact on Germany

In Germany, children learn English in school. Globalisation has had a major impact on English becoming such an integral part of the modern German culture. That also includes being able to help international skilled workers integrate when immigrating to Germany.

Yes, we also certify your English translations.

Please note:

We can guarantee that our English-to-German certified translations are officially recognised. However, every English-speaking country has its own set of regulations so please make sure you check which regulation applies to your certified translation. The Canadian government, for instance, recognises certified translations created by translators sworn in Germany.

As there are differences between British and American English, please state the country the certified translation is for when placing your order.
